James William Engelstad, Sr., passed away from a courageous battle with cancer on August 2, 2020 in Mesa, AZ.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.
James was born on May 10, 1947, in Warren. He was the middle son of Clifford and Ethel (Scheie) Engelstad. His parents owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Café in Warren. Jim graduated from Warren High School in 1965. He attended Bemidji State University for one year.
James was united in marriage to Susan Looker in Thief River Falls, in 1966. They moved to Fargo, ND in 1975, and later to West Fargo. They have four children.
Jim was a hard worker and worked many places. To name a few, Maul Brothers and Performance Auto. He enjoyed Nascar racing, target shooting, reading, watching NDSU Bison football, and spending time with family and friends. After he and his wife, Susan, retired they moved to Mesa, AZ. In Mesa, he belonged to the Eagles. He cherished his friends in Mesa.
James is survived by his wife, Susan Engelstad; three sons and one daughter: James Engelstad, Jr. of Gardner, Timothy Engelstad (Brandi) of Fargo, Kimberly Opitz (James) of Gardner and Mark Engelstad (Amanda) of Dickinson; eleven grandchildren, ninegreat grandchildren; two brothers, Loren Engelstad of Warren and Lee Engelstad of Fargo.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ethel Engelstad; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Engelstad (James Jr.); and grandson Jett Engelstad.
